Hi all
We just got back from a super Sat event and must share. We took our 3 Fjords
to a charity event at the Smoky Mtn Expo Center in eastern Tn. There were
about 35-40 breeds presented (some demos, some just one representative) along
with neat demos such as carriage drill team, polo, foxhunting (w/ hounds),
civil war cavalry, sheriff's mounted, peruvians. Wow, a lot to show off
equines for a good cause (Crumley House brain injury rehab.
Anyway..... we did a pattern with one driving Fjord, one riding. (It was
basically ADS Prelim test 2) in a huge arena, rider mirroring driver. The
guys did GREAT, I had such a blast, I am sure the audience was impressed. (I
was when I was center arena, while Curt rode a canter circle by me and the
announcer said, "What a nice flying lead change" I turned to the friend with
me and said, "They don't do that", guess they did Saturday!)
Anyway, we met lots of folks that had never seen a Fjord before, they were
very receptive. Thanks Mike for having that one-pager on the NFHR site, we
make B&W copies and take them with us for these occasions. I really love the
way the guys performed in and out of the arena Sat and even tho we are not
breeders, we do pass on names and suggest contacts for folks we meet on these
"goodwill" missions of ours. BTW, our POC for this was our driving trainer,
she did a tandem to a random demo in the arena and it went flawlessly. A
random is new to me, I enjoyed it immensely (even tho we were all in the
arena in case.... can never have too many ground crews sometimes). any way,
just wanted to tell ya all that our Fjord crew did great ambassador duty as
they have for Equitana, the No. VA draft horse assoc and they will both be
showing at an "A" level dressage show week after next, last of the season.
We have body clipped all, as VA is way too hot for the hairy ones.
