I know the tube looks like a great cure sometimes, just pass the tube, add a little oil and the horse gets better. This is only effective in a few types of colic. The rate at which your horse deteriorated leads me to believe that this was a surgical case. Hind sight is always twenty-twenty though. To cut or not to cut can be a tough choice sometimes. The pain killers that we give, although important to keep the horse comfortable and out of shock, can make the decision even more difficult. I wish they were built with a little window that we could just peek in and see what's going on in there sometimes. I'm very sorry for your loss. I know it makes you feel so helpless not to be able to do something for them. Been there many times. Don't be too tough on yourself thinking that you may have been able to prevent it. These things just happen sometimes. The only sure way to not have this problem is to not have horses. And that's no good either, is it? With sympathy, Steve White
