Hi, David-Joni from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, U.S.A. here. I do alot of
"road riding" on what I believe you in the U.K. refer to as "tarmac", or
asphalt, as we call it and my 10yr old gelding's hooves end up straight
across in no time. I don't shoe him and there is no need for a "wild horse"
trim since the road does it. I have noticed that he trips less now than when
he was younger. I attribute this to better coordination and self-carraige,
and I suppose maturity brings less distraction.
By the way, when we were in Scotland last year, I saw alot of horses in
fields, but only spotted two riders along a country road-really thought it
strange. In England you see alot of riders about. Do you ride mostly on
your property or on the roads? Are there shows to go to? What sort of
reaction do you get from the Scottish people toward the Fjord horse? Hope
you don't mind all the questions-I'm curious.
