Kate,

I would place them wherever you have flies.  You might try that, leaving a 
little of the manure to deposit the fly predators in. The 'friendly flies' 
seek out the nasty fly larvae when they hatch.  They travel a fair amount of 
distance looking for lunch - can't remember if it's 100' or 100 yards.  I 
even scatter some around my indoor arena.  I do also hang the sticky fly 
strips to catch the occasional nasty flies that do manage to survive.
