Hi,
In regard to the Freedom fly drops. I did 3 different things last summer to
keep the fly population down. I used freedom fly drops, equitrol in their
feed, and I sprayed my stalls and paddocks about one a month. I had very
little problem with flies. However, the horse journal I get did a study on
freedom fly drops. They felt they were effective as long as you don't wash
your horse or hose them down very often. And I believe they also said that if
it rained a lot or they sweat real bad, this would also decrease its
effectiveness. Since I now have 3 horses instead of 2, I have eliminated the
freedom fly drops to cut down on the expense. I still feel it is a little too
early to be able to tell if I will have a bigger problem with flies without
the drops. I'm in NW Mo. and it has just started to warm up, but it has been
so windy that the flies are just beginning to make themselves noticed. I
feel the equitrol is very helpful, since the flies can't breed in the manure
and this helps all over the pasture. Hope I've been able to shed a little
light on the subject. If the flies become more of a problem without the
freedom spot on, I will go back using it regardless of the expense. Onna
