This message is from: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello Mary, everyone,
> And there are true 'white duns'(with black > stripes etc) out there with two white dun parents - > the Bailey's mare Gwendellin is one of them. Yes, FC Gwendellin is the offspring of Modellin and Lin, both imported white duns. > were mine I would be a little careful about what color > genetics were present in any stallion I bred her to. > If I were to choose a grey stallion for her I would > want to be VERY sure he did not carry a hidden Ccr > gene. We agree with this. As a matter of fact, it was suggested to us on a few occasions to bred her to yet ANOTHER white dun stallion!! Of course we said NO and explained that would just be asking for problems. We also are leary of the idea of breeding her to a grey stallion, for the reasons you mentioned. As a matter of fact, even though people requested us to breed her when she first came home, we waited until we were positive about the color issue. We had picked her for many reasons, beauty, conformation, pedigree, plus she is a lovely white dun, but also her compatiblity with our stallion. We wished to make sure mixing these two colors would result in an accepted color as conformationally, we believe we made a good match. She IS beautiful though, and it would be a > shame to not breed her at all. With her genetic > background, and with the ratings her ancestors have, > there is great potential there for lovely babies. > Thanks Mary, we are very proud of her! FC Gwendellin is bred for this year, as a matter of fact, her foal is due the beginning of March! We are VERY excited. She is bred to our stallion Engar, who is a brown dun with the red dun recessive gene. I talked with Brian Jacobsen last year about colors at great length, and it seems the best crossing for a white dun is to bred her with a brown dun. One can get any of the 5 colors, but not take the chance of producing an albino.
