I usually lurk instead of write but I had to report that Vivian Creigh's Fjord mare, Mira, represented the breed quite well at the Laurels CDE this past weekend. Mira is one of the mares that Vivian recently imported and has been driving this spring and summer at the Preliminary level (as a pair). Mira was originally scheduled to compete in the pair but was brought alone to do the single pony prelim division when Vivian's navigator cancelled at the last minute. It was only Mira's second time out as a single horse and Vivian wasn't sure how she would do, especially given the caliber of competition at the Laurels. Long story short, Mira did well! She is only 7 and was a little tense in the dressage test, which left her in last (15th) place the first day. She made up alot of ground next day in the marathon, in which we were 4th fastest. I say "we" because I had great fun navigating for Vivian, who did an outstanding job of driving! She drove clean and fast and Mira was listening to her every step of the way. The Laurels course is beautiful and has some fairly challenging terrain, which requires a "hill-fit" horse/pony. Not a problem for this Fjord. On section E we were always about 2.5 minutes ahead of time, so time penalties were never a threat. On Sunday Mira cantered the cones course and went clean, again due to excellent driving by Vivian. Overall they placed 8th out of 15 ponies, with some pretty tough competition. Mira was the only Fjord there and got the usual attention that Fjords attract.
