Hello Friends, Now that the dust has settled, I can tell you all about the Thursday from Hell. We started early. We were packing for a Harley Bike trip to the Redwoods in California (Redwood Run 24th year... my first year...) I was sooooo excited. 1st... filly 2001 cut her ear by having 1/2 brother colt 2001 bite it... (call the vet) 2nd ... mare that is due in 2 weeks is off feed... 3rd... the "bug man" scheduled to come at 10 am on Friday shows up a day early ready to spray the house and is pushing to kick us out of the house. 4th... boarding horse is acting funny... (call the owner, call the vet) We are packed up and giving last minute instructions. To include... "tell the Vet, the mare is off feed and have her assist spend the night please, the mare will birth out tonight" Long story short... I have waited 24 years to go to this Harley run. I finally go but pay a very expensive price. We lost the colt and almost the mare. The message did not get to the right person and no one watched out for them. The colt did not break the bag open and died. Mama was not stimulated and retained the placenta. She is doing better now but is still not in the clear as far as infection and fever. Lots of lessons have been learned by this experience. The Redwood Run was fun. I did find out on Friday morning via a message on the cell phone. Sort of placed a damper on the "fun". Oh... also a painting that I had purchased and paid for was in a gallery showing and was sold by mistake.... NOW that is bad Karma for that Thursday..... (now I can laugh but it really was the day from hell) Thanks for listening, catherine lassesen in Southern Oregon waiting the last of my mares to foal.. Belle Belle...
