By now you know an ox is a separate breed of bovine.  They were used in
Europe extensively up to the second WW.  Then mechanization took over and
when I was there in May 2002 I did not see one.  Sad.  They used to lumber
over the cobble stone streets and you honked etc to try and get past the
slow moving wagons..  Also their hooves would be trimmed at the blacksmiths
on a main road and they were placed in an elaborate and strong framework.
Not mean critters to my knowledge. But huge.  Jean
