Hmm. Perhaps it might be better to refer to the two "classes" (if there
really needs to be a separation) as pleasure & show, rather than performance &
trail. After all, there are trail classes in shows and competitors are
called "trail horses". And, as Carol pointed out, "performance" is not a term
exclusively limited to show/competitive animals. There are indeed horses used
primarily as pleasure riding/driving animals that really do "perform" to a
very high standard out on the [wilderness] trail. (Ah yes, terms can be
confusing/deceiving.) Then again, which "class" would you put the horse into
that is actively used for both pleasure and show, or shows in "pleasure"
classes? Especially if showing is a pleasure to you...... Will there then,
soon be such a "class" as a "Halter" Fjord (ala Halter QHs)? Ma Nature
Forbid! Or, is it perhaps best to just persist in calling our wonderful
Fjords "versatile" and not try to drop them into categories/ types/niches?
Certainly gives us something to think about while mucking out stalls or pens.

Now, I think I'll go out and give homemade horse cookies (Thanks Marry
Dixon!) to my much loved used-for-anything-and-everything-I-feel-like-trying
type Fjords!!

PS: Please be aware that my tongue is planted quite firmly in my cheek. :)
