I am offering these thoughts to help out on this discussion. My thoughts
actually orginate from a comment that the late Gene Bauer made to me. (yes
god bless him, he is still having an impact on this breed)

Gene & I were having a discussion about something related to 'his' registry
(NFA) and I said something that I can't even remember now. His response,
with his typical great ole gruffness, "we're a stud book not a social club".
This comment for some reason stuck with me and I don't think I will ever be
able to shake it. I think it is applicable here.

I think the current NFHR has two very important aspects; 'the stud book
aspect' and the 'promotion aspect'. What Carol R. & the Jensens are
concerned about were the 'stud book aspect'. It sounds like the president's
words were related mostly to the 'promotional aspect' but being interpreted
as something related to the 'stud book aspect'. Hence the conflict.

It seems to me everyone (including the NFHR board) agree the breed should
remain 'true' to it's origins and everyone whole heartedly agree with the
variety of uses for these horses/ponies.

I, like Gene, see a distinct line between these two aspects. Others may not
and may think we should blend the two so that we breed in conjunction with
how we market. Although I have seen no one promoting that concept yet.

In summary, We just need to articulate when communicating whether we are
talking about the 'stud book aspect' or the 'promotional aspect'.

So, I hope I have helped. I too am thrilled with the level of discussion
and the way it has been handled in such a mature constructive manner. I
only saw one little 'mis-understanding' of a person's post that was quickly
clarified. I am thrilled with the level of maturity this discussion group
has reached and think we all need to congratulate ourselves on that!

Thanks
