This message is from: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> After a fair bit of lurking, I am out to introduce myself at last. I am a professional horse artist, and I fell in love with Fjord Horses while doing a commission of one in CA. My real horse experience was a hunter/jumper working-student life with many breeds, but the years of calming nutty horses caused me to choose not to own one myself. Fjords are quite different, and they have converted me. It is interesting to note that many people compare their temperament to that of a mule, which would be my second choice in an equine partner. I must be on the right track.(;^) I am now in the process of purchasing a pair of Fjord geldings for myself and my husband.
I am an uncool, vocal helmet wearer. When I was a teen working student, I reprimanded all of my students for even sitting on a horse without a helmet. It actually made my stomach turn to see someone pulling such a deadly risk! Now my husband (not an experienced rider) is trying to convince me he doesn't need a helmet. Wrong! We all do. Anyone who wants to groom, longe, or ride my Fjords had better have their *correctly fitted* approved helmet on. Whew! As for riding, I delight in groundwork just as much as riding. I love horsemanship- grooming, leg wrapping, basics of training. It is wonderful when you have a horse understand what you're asking, and I'm really looking forward to polishing my Fjords. Eventually, I may train the more forward of the two geldings all the way to hunter over fences, but I am not interested in competing. I just think it's beautiful and gives the horse something to really think about. I guess that's another reason why I love Fjords- they're thinking horses!
