My 12'. open stock trailer has a gate about 4' from the front. I have
padded two 2x6s and use them as chest or butt bars in front of the metal
gate (on the horse side) so my horse can lean against them, or back up
against them. this leaves an open compartment for the horse that is about
8' long by 6' wide (width of trailer). If I were trailering two horses I
would have to tie them, certainly, but find that letting one horse loose in
this 6' x 8' space works well. The solid metal divider is about 4' high.
the space in the front of the trailer is where I can carry a saddle, tack
box, feed, buckets, etc.

Jean in Fairbanks, Alaska, still melting and mucky. will be 50 degrees today!
