I have to admit that sometimes when I would talk to her or read her emails I would find it hard to believe that any horse could be as incredible as she claimed he was. Then I finally was able to spend some time with Hostar at Blue Earth and afterwards at Pat's home. I am beginning to understand of which she speaks. But this message is really not about Hostar, although that is tempting. It is about Pat. As a trainer, and then somewhere along the line as a friend she has been incredible. I had to have complete trust in her to always do the right thing by "our" horse - I was in Idaho which was a very long ways away. She never let me down, was a true professional and never quit thinking about how we could best bring Hostar back. Thanks, Pat, for your knowledge, skill, tenaciousness, dedication and optimism. And I'll never forget those early morning phone calls that would always start before I could barely say hello with "Everything's ok".
