Hey there Cheryl and those interested in PNFPG show location(s), Good questions!!!! Cheryl wrote in part ---Why does the vote for the new location have to be done now??---- Well, first, this is not necessarily a move of our Fall PNFPG show. This may be an additional Fall show.It seems to be stacking up that way.But let me give you some additional perspective. We do not have to do anything right now!!! But the time is again ripe for re-considering of another show location.According to an earlier post by a multi-term Libby Show chair-person, moving the show was considered ten years ago. I and my wife have worked on Libby show committee several times since we joined and moving the show has been discussed often. It was especially discussed after the 2005 show which was a disaster due to weather and the VS outbreak. That show was very nearly cancelled a week before the show. Some key leaders, not us, really pushed to cancel the show because the VS outbreak in Montana caused participant cancellations and tricky veterinarian arrangements to even hold the show.We on show committee persevered but boy it was hard work in the rain and cold. And yes, PNFPG lost money. The time is ripe because we need to consider the needs and desires of our membership ---- Keep in mind Cheryl it is my, not very humble, opinion that the MosesLake motion will get over 80% of the vote! That is a reflection of where the members live, where they are willing to volunteer to work and what they think of the show facilities at MosesLake, wonderful facilities. Let me give you two, somewhat abstract, examples and I ask you to reflect on how the membership as a whole feel about the two different scenarios.Jon Doe #1 participates every year with excellent stock and wrote the show committee to say, due to distance and time he will never help with the Libby show and enclosed was a check in lieu of help. He further stated he is a business man and understands that volunteer effort is so important. Next was Jon Doe # 2, He has made it clear that he will never help under any circumstances. Verbally and caustically he let everyone know he is an honored guest and wants preferential treatment and now wants to tell the peasants (workers at the show) when, how and where to have a show that will suit his demands. Perhaps you are unaware but the Libby show in most recent years has been a money loser ---- that means our annual dues and fund raisers help pay for the show for both Jon Does cited above. It is unpalatable for the hard workers in our group to have those who come only for the ribbons, whom we subsidize and work so hard to provide for, treat us so uncaringly. Should we be concerned about the desires of the vast majority of our group??? Does this sound like I am promoting one show or two???? Well, my goal is to at least promote a MosesLake show because that is what many, many members want. Should we have two shows?Absolutely, if there are workers and participants for both. PNFPG should also continue and expand our CDEâs, Spring Flings, clinics, exhibits at all-breed shows, trail rides, breeders festivals etc. etc.And for all of these activities, members who are willing to do the work should vote to hold the events. How can they vote for these activities?Well, the by-laws provide that they show up at a business meeting and vote because then they are right there to volunteer to do the work. And that brings me to a very, very excellent question you have asked. Why did we not have our PNFPG Fall business meeting at the Libby show????My wife proposed exactly this at the 2006 Spring meeting, when the Libby Show and Fall meeting plans were being discussed. The Daytons wanted the Yakima location with the museum tour. That was the eventual decision. But we, the Riddles, absolutely agree with you, when there is a Fall show the Fall meeting should always be held at that show.Likewise any big spring PNFPG event is the logical time and place for our spring business meeting. That allows maximum participation of members who show, who volunteer, who even just come to watch the show or event, to also attend the business meeting. Cheryl, I really appreciate the thorough discussion. Warren Riddle, Spokane The FjordHorse List archives can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/rcepw
