Hi, This is just a curiosity question.one of my mares, SF Elke, whom I've had for about 8 years now ( she's 14), is a delight. Every single winter she has developed a bald spot, about the size of a hamburger , in exactly the same spot, just behind her mouth, on the left side of her face. As soon as her spring coat comes in, it vanishes. Doesn't itch, seem aggravated in any way, or bother her; it's just ugly and naked. This winter, here in Massachusetts, we had an unseasonably warm December and January, and it didn't happen---I was surprised.BUT, the minute the cold weather set in, in early February, there it was again. No other horse I've ever had has developed this peculiar skin condition, and I wondered if anyone out there in Fjordland has run into this sort of thing. Any opinions would be interesting..thanks ! Susie in Athol Ma., on a beautiful late winter day. The FjordHorse List archives can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/rcepw
