I have a Dodge Ram 1500 - no hemi as far as I know - and a featherlite 3
horse slant load trailer. The Dodge hauls the trailer with 3 horses in it
(sometimes big warmbloods belonging to friends) with no problem. Our old
Ram 1500 didn't have the same hauling power. Of course, the Featherlite
is...well, featherlite...being all aluminum. And the combined weight of the
trailer and 3 horses is below the rated hauling power of my Ram. I hauled
to Libby from western Washington this year and we didn't have a problem
going over the pass. Just make sure to check the rated hauling power of
your vehicle against the weights of your trailer (loaded with your
equipment) and the horses you are carrying. I've been happy with my combo.

We have the Dodge Ram 1500, with the hemi. We have a steel 2-horse trailer
(weighing in at about 2800 lbs, and carry my 1,000+ pony. You hardly know
the truck is pulling anything. You can feel it kick into overdrive going
up
the mountains, but we (well....my husband) is extremely pleased with the
performance. He says the hemi makes the difference in the power to pull.
We did
not want to get the 2500 because he also uses the truck to commute to work,
and we only trailer maybe 8 times a year. Mileage is better with the 1500.
He
recommends against the Durango unless you are only going on short, flat
trips.

Kate and Joe (who has advised he would prefer we get a slant load trailer)

Has anyone on this list had experienced pulling a two horse trailer with
either the Durango or Ram 1500?
