We are happy to hear from Brian and Ursula at Trinity Fjords that our babies
all arrived safe and sound. The trip from our farm in Germany out to Lumby,
British Columbia, was a performance test in itself. First they had 600
miles in a truck to the airport in Luxemburg, 12 hours rest, then 12 hours
flight to Los Angeles (that is one of the normal freight routes to Calgary),
3 hours rest, then 5 hours flight to Calgary. Even for me the long flight
was exhausting. My personal bonus was being allowed to join the crew in the
cockpit of the 747 flying into LA international airport! Unloading from
the airline container and loading into Brian´s trailer took about 2 minutes.
Calgary animal station had never seen such calm and quiet yearlings. The
whole enterprise was an exciting first not only for the horses but also for
Brian and myself. Personally I never had any doubt about the mental
stability of the horses but was still surprised at how calmly they managed
everything. We know Brian and Ursula are handling the horses in a
thoroughly professional way and we hope that each individual horse will live
up to the expectations. All 5 horses were selectively bred on our farm with
all the mothers already being bred by us and carrying our suffix "vom
Oderhaff". This group of offspring sired by Solbjør Borken will - besides
its physical and mental qualities - certainly bring some interesting colour
potential to North America, 4 of them being white dun, two of these with a
red dun background and all of them with a chance for grey. The pedigree of
Bastian vom Oderhaff includes on the father´s (Solbjør Borken) side
Saethersblakken, Radar, Tunfeld, Dragmann, as well as Ernarson, Ernar and
Haugull. The white dun gene is passed on by the bottom line of the mother in
Solbjør Borken´s pedigree: Venke 14167, Evelyn 14595 and his mother Edna
N-88-2586.
