I have ridden a fjord in a 32" Stubben which used to be Stubben's
widest tree. Now they will make their saddles in a 34" tree but you
probably have to order it.
If I can be so bold as to point out a couple of things...
1st - 32 is centimeters, not inches. Easy mistake to make!
2nd - 32 is actually not considered a wide, but rather a medium
Stubben (and Kieffer also) tree. A wide is a 34 cm or even wider,
and yes, they do have to be ordered, as the market isn't there for
them to be made en masse and sit on the shelf at a tack shop. (A
narrow tree, such as the 29 cm I used to have for a thoroughbred) was
a speecial order too.)
The three Fjords at our farm all wear a 32 cm. tree, either a small
kids (Stubben Rex) saddle or a larger (18" Stubben Wotan or
Siegfried) saddle for adults. There are many good saddles out there,
but I would caution against the Indian/Pakistani made saddles. They
are cheap, and made cheaply from inferior leather (poorly tanned and
stinky!) and of poor quality workmanship. A used European saddle is
a good thing - well broken in, less expensive, etc. I have had some
35-45 year old saddles and they are just as functional as a newer
one, provided the quality was there at the beginning!
Good luck and enjoy!
