congrats.....i am sure that your attitude affects his, also.

someone else mentioned that it takes time for horses to bond with us, and i
was told that by someone when i first got oz. and for quite some time when he
was at my old trainers, or even in my pasture, he didn't even seem to care that
i was around. he didn't respect me, and since we weren't working together a
lot, we just didn't have enough experience.

since i started riding him regularly, there has been a great turnaround. when
i get to the barn where he is boarded, if he's in the back of his pasture, he
will come on my whistle. if he's eating, he might not stop and say hi,
however, he does flick an ear in my direction :) and he will meet me at the
gate if
he's just standing nearby.

he is affectionate (especially when he thinks i have a treat, though i don't
allow mooching), silly, sometimes hard to get moving.....strange, since for a
while i was sure he was going to run away with me....and quite the nice boy.
but it's taken us 3 years to get to this point.

i think they just need time to adjust to all the changes and realize that's
where they are staying.

laurie, and oz, who needs a smaller girth on both his saddles
