By chance, did anyone see the documentary about Libby on Spokane PBS
last night? A timely wake-up call for sure. I just wish I had seen
it years ago.

Are you referring to the "Lumby Deposit" near you-- in saying you wish
you'd seen it years ago? I'm very sorry for you folks also -with mica
(vermiculite) in your back yard. You're so right that awareness is
crucial, thank goodness we have that now.

I saw the documentary you refer to quite some time back, it is mostly
of a historical nature, because there has since been enormous clean up
of every trace. Last year when we had this conversation, regards the
Libby Fjord Horse Show, I contacted the Mayor of Libby and one of the
County Commissioners; they emphatically assured me there is no risk
whatsoever in the occasional guest (nor even for residents) because of
the fastidious clean-up.

Any vermiculite that made it into Libby, in the past, was unwittingly
transported there before anyone knew the hazard, it is not just an
element lying about any-old-where. It was removed from a pit mine
about 7 miles from Libby and brought in by individuals for insulation.
Every building in Libby has been combed for any trace and removed by
the EPA.

I suppose there would be no more risk in coming to Libby than going to
your farm near Lumby for a driving vacation, assuming that mica has
not been unknowingly broadcast. In doing research on vermiculite I
came across the "Lumby Deposit" and would be glad to share references
with you.
