It's good to be able to buy the shoe in person or from a source that makes returns easy (Zappos comes to mind), because I think the shoe runs a little long and on the wide side of medium width.
I normally wear an 8 1/2 size, but I buy the Terrain in 7 1/2. I also put in a Dr. Scholl's arch support insert to take up a little space and add some more cushioning.
