With my recurring rant on the subject of caution about inbreeding, I was really interested to note that Njal's grandsire was the same on both top and bottom lines. So here we have a closely bred stud as the foundation of the sole stallion line for the modern Fjord. Just more reason to take great care to keep as much diversity as possible in the breed and to take coefficient of inbreeding into consideration when selecting horses for breeding. You can get a free program to calculate COI for a 10 generation pedigree from http://www.tenset.co.uk/fspeed/fspeed.html.

Have a safe and happy New Year!
