This message is from: [email protected] Each year the Virginia Draft Horse and Mule Associations holds a big (2 day, 3 ring) show.??The typical class size ranged from 8 - 10 or more competitors.? In the past, there were a few Fjords, but this year we took over.? We had 11 Fjords there.? Tom and I brought 4, Lee Rouse had 5, Adrianne Foshay had 1 and Jamie Poniker had 1.? We would have had more except Curt Pierce and Sue Frievald were Show Secretary and Assistant Secretary, respectively.? I am proud to say that people were amazed by the Fjords' performance.? We were in the Small Draft Division competing against Gypsy Vanners and Haflingers.? I believe a Fjord won every English under saddle class there was -- hunter hack, English pleasure, jumper, trail and games.?? My mare, Helle, with junior rider Olivia Schiermeyer?just squeaked past Ironwood Blitzen (Diana Phillips) and NFR Shastamen (Cameron Rouse) to win the overall riding championship for the show.
In driving, Noel Hersson and I drove Helle and Blitzen.? We swapped horses so we could run each one through the cones and obstacles.? We both flew.? The Fjords came in first or second in every timed driving class.? Noel, who some list members may recall is a paraplegic, had a blast.?Thanks to our joint efforts, Blitzen ended up winning the overall driving championship for the show with Helle close behind.? We even tried draft.? I need more practice to be really competitive at it, but it was fun, we pinned?and the Fjords were represented.? I believe that Helle won the overall show high point with Blitzen as the reserve.? Helle may have won the versatility award for riding, driving and draft, too.? I can tell you that we definitely shook things up there in Virginia this weekend.?
