Hi Debby,

I've had some good luck with Schneider's blankets www.sstack.com , in
particular any of the V-Free blankets. I have the 'New Briton' types. There
is a Velcro adjustment on either side of the neck, so you can adjust the
opening to suit the horse.

This link is to their mid-weight turnout, which I use for all my horses
during our worst winter weather here in SE Wisconsin. Quarter Horses and
Fjords. http://www.sstack.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=2659

The Fjords are trace-clipped to help with cool down after work, but they
seem to do well with these blankets whether clipped or not. I use the same
model in a Turnout Sheet for the wet, muddy season(s).

For stable blankets, I have always sworn by the Big D stable blankets. Here
is a link to the same type of blanket I use, but you can certainly shop
around. just Google 'Big D Stable Blanket'
http://store.blanketbarn.com/category/stable_blankets.html. They are warm
and seem to fit that unique rounded and sometimes wide confirmation that the
Fjords have. I started out, and continue to use them on my Quarter Horses.
If it is really nasty (cold and wind chill) outside, I put the Big D on
first, then may top it with the New Briton turnout sheet or mid-weight
blanket, depending on conditions. Not too often that I've had to use both
heavy blankets (knock wood), but you can never tell around here. Through
most winters for the last 5 years, we've just used the mid-weight New Briton
turnout blankets. The Schneider New Britons also come with a neck cover,
which I have for my Quarter Horses.

Hope that helps!

Diane with Aron and Davin who are still wearing their turnout sheets (to
stay clean) in this unusually warm, now wet and muddy November in SE
Wisconsin!
