It's hot here in Minnesota as well!!! Yesterday afternoon the heat index
was the hottest in the country. Our Ranec is feeling the effects of his
cushings and the heat. Everyone else seems to be doing fine.

Yesterday Kay set up a hose to spray a mist into the pasture. We've also
given him several cool baths each day and have a fan hooked up for him to
get some air movement. His breathing is elevated but he's eating, drinking
and moving around ok. The bath and fan helps.

I got up at 3am to check on him since it was still 82 degrees, and foggy
from such a high dew point (been in the high 70's and low 80's). The
windows in our house are completely fogged up on the outside. He was laying
down, but doing fine at 3am, but I gave him fresh cool water and hosed his
front legs and chest down again. This morning he was standing nicely in
front of the fan when I went to work. My wife Kay has the day shift of
keeping him hydrated, cool and safe.

It sounds like the heat is with us for a couple more days, but tomorrow is
forecasting winds in the 20's which will do wonders to keep them cool.
Without the wind we are sweating through our clothes in just a few minutes.

Jim and Kay Barnhart from tropical Minnesota.
