Good Grief! You youngsters! I got my first horse ever at age 50, and jumped
in
with both feet with a pregnant mare and an older gelding to ride (All Fjords of
course!)
Now the foal I saw born is 25 this year (Do the math...I don't like to think
about
MY age) I have had one knee replaced 5 years ago and the other one needs it but
not
'till this winter!) I intend to ride this summer, but should have someone
around,
which is hard as I used to ride alone all the time! I wake up at 5:00 AM
because
I can't seem to sleep any later, feed my horses three times a day, but have a
friend pull out the heavy 73 lb hay bales for me. I won't give up! My old
gelding
that I got to ride when My mare was pregnant died last year at age 36.
Bjorken's
Mom is now 35 but still going strong, but I don't ride her. I might lead
around
little Kid on her. so It's "Mind over matter! Keep on riding!

Jean in Fairbanks, Alaska 50 degrees, leaves popping out!

"When I’m An Old Horsewoman”

I shall wear turquoise and diamonds,

And a straw hat that doesn’t suit me.

And I shall spend my social security on red wine and carrots, And sit in the
alley-way of my barn

And listen to my horses breathe.

I will sneak out in the middle of a summer night and ride the old dun gelding
across the moonstruck meadow

if my old bones will allow.

And when people come to call, I will smile and nod as I walk past the gardens to
the barn and show instead the flowers growing inside stalls fresh lined with
straw.

I will shovel and sweat and wear hay in my hair as if it were a jewel.

And I will be an embarrassment to all,

Who have not yet found the peace in being free to have a horse as a

best friend.

A friend who waits at midnight hour

With muzzle and nicker and patient eyes

For the kind of woman I will be

When I am old.
