Yes, it is true. It is very sturdy, but no match for a determined Fjord who wants to enlarge the holes to get more hay out faster. The manufacturer says to vold the hay flake over so that the hay puffs out of the holes a bit. That might help, but in my view, it is way too much to work to put the hay in "just so." A better substitute is the Hay Hoop and Tough One net from KV vet supply. The disadvantage to this is that you need a bin underneath it to avoid the horse ingesting hay IF you are on sandy soil Gail <<She will destroy it in short order. The reason I didn't get it is because it is a one-horse gadget, and I have two -- with the Fjord being way dominant over the little donkey, who would never get a bite to eat.
