I was able to fix it; but I see now what was wrong. For the reference of others:
Make sure you call the atomic data by node.childNodes[0].nodeValue I traced out node.childNodes[0] directly - that's why it wasn't tracing properly. Thanks guys! -- Ramon Miguel M.
