You can do this with a 3rd party tool, as Jesse mentioned. The 3rd party
tools create EXEs that need to be run on the client system.

Dragging something from the desktop onto a browser window will only make
the browser attempt to open/download it.

Typically the 3rd party tools will allow far more than simply accepting
drag and drop, but each tool is different.

If the 3rd party app scenario works for your needs check out their web
sites and forums.

Subject: [Flashcoders] Dragging images into Flash from desktop

Anybody thought of a clever way of dragging images from the desktop into
Flash either in the browser or standalone? Possibly using some type of
DHTML or JavaScript to accomplish it or using one of those Flash Wrapper
applications such as Zinc or something?

Client is requesting something where they can drag an image into a Flash
application for easy uploading of the image. I know there's a lot to
this technique but I just wanted to start with step 1 and see if it's
even been done before.

Any help would be appreciated.
