You might find that quite tricky to achieve accurately: arc length of an ellipse involves some rather unpleasant calculus. Elliptic integrals are decribed here: http://mathworld.wolfram.com/EllipticIntegraloftheSecondKind.html
If your ellipse isn't very eccentric, you'll probably find my method works well enough for your purposes.
