Even if you manipulate newline only with string, you might get annoying result:

// Frame action
var my_str:String = newline;
my_str += ""+newline;

// [Debug] > [List Variables]:
Variable _level0.my_str = "¥n¥r"

Tested on Flash 8.0/Mac OS X.4.6 & Windows XP (SP1)
