If it's Verdana then I doubt it's the font - my problem was with Channel 4's custom font (you'd think they'd have spent some money getting someone to create it correctly).
If it's only descenders getting cropped then have you tried outlining your text boxes to see if there's anything going on there? - how are you setting the style on the textfield - TextFormat or Styles?
