for the effects to take affect, you'd need to publish in version 8. since those with 7 won't be able to load that (or might not be able to with predictable results) using System.capabilities.version to detect version number might not solve your problem.

Hi I have a SWF which is published as Flash 8 purely to take advantage of the filter effects that can be applied to dynamic text fields. The problem is that I am now forced to deploy the project to Flash 7. I was hoping that I could do a detect within the SWF and serve up the nice Flash 8 text fields for the majority who can see it, and just have the plain old 7 ones for those who can't.
