I am assuming that you like the fact that the Flex background is blurred while the alert is being displayed. Is this true? If you rolled your own, the stage is a MovieClip, so you could apply a blur filter to it, or take a bitmap snap of it and blur that & place your own alert sprite on top, or whatever.
