Ha! Not too many. I took my iPhone to stay in touch with family and friend's through email and facebook. I only work for a small group of clients who knew I was away and I arranged someone else to make any updates to any sites. I checked work email about once per week to make sure nothing too major had gone wrong.
Next time I would consider taking my laptop and working on the road. But this first trip it was important to not have it. I thoroughly recommend it.
