It should disable SMI, yes; I don't see why the cross compiled build
wouldn't.
It is the same code that is being compiled: see
http://www.flashrom.org/trac/flashrom/browser/trunk/README#L97

Perhaps linux handles SMI "I/O" (I couldn't think of a better name) better
dan DOS does ?
