That will happen to any site that you try to launch in the browser, unless we use a single column layout. What we are trying to do, is for it to fit the screen with as good an experience as we can produce and without loosing the aspect ratio on the assets.
www.apple.com faces the same issue in mobile device. While the plan is to make this as much usable on the phone as possible, I can have my team started on a full fledged mobile layout post we are done with the basic site and while you guys are integrating the main site with CMS An android/iOS app might not be a bad choice either.
