You just said that you don't care about Flex artifacts but FM depends on Flex sdk, isn't it? Given that you have supported for a long time ago the flex artifacts deployment in the Sonatype repository, if Apache takes in charge the deployment of flex sdk artifacts in a maven way, you don't will have to take care of sdk artifacts deployment and this will give you more times to do what you want...
