And as if it hasn't been said enough:

Flex is for the presentation tier. It doesn't stand alone unless you
are working within a totally static environment (which nobody is).

So, it seems to me that you have to pick a server-side technology. You
know, to do the database access and scheduled routines, maybe send
emails ...

Well, if you pick Flex, you sorta already chose J2EE, because it is a
J2EE application (a WAR file to be presice.) So, you could just use
jsp's and JAVA stuff (which I don't really know about)

Anyway, our platform is JRun, CFMX 6.1 Enterprise, and Flex (soon).
And the Flex app I am R&Ding (actually it is showing at a convention
this weekend), does remote object calls to our CF server to get a
large packet of data to start with. Then it communicates to a
third-party webservice for some more data.

Coldfusion is a great addition to your J2EE server. It's amazing how
simple and cleanly you can do the bulk of what you need to do in CF.

So my answer to "bet your company on one web technology" is, "No! I
can't and neither can you". Unles you want to just use HTML???
