Not sure on how you built your rating component but first hing popped in my head was to make sure you don't use the default v2 framework that comes with Flash MX 2004 when you compile your app, but instead make sure it points to the FlexForFlash framework...
(ie under ActionScript 2.0 settings just change the ordering).
