i'm not sure what you mean by 'trying to solve the wrong problem.' all i've done is subclass the Slider class. that's it. nothing more. it compiles and then crashes at runtime and the stack trace points to internal framework errors. without debugging the framework, i was thinking maybe someone knew what the story was here. maybe i was doing something obviously wrong.
