The target property in the TimerEvent when it fires contains a reference
to the Timer Object that you can use to stop the Timer.

Subject: [flexcoders] sailorsea21 - How to stop a timer that is in a
private function?

Hi everyone, I have the following timer:

private function initTimer():void {
var myTimer:Timer = new Timer(30000);
myTimer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, updateData);
myTimer.start();
}

How can I stop the following timer?
Can it be stopped using another function?

Thanks.

-David
