Yeah, probably two pieces: some MOUSE_DOWN/MOUSE_MOVE/MOUSE_UP code that draws a selection rectangle, and code that walks the tree of display objects using getChildAt, checks to see if the child is contained in the rectangle, and sees if it has any text.
