Hi,

Assuming your login window is popped up using the PopupManager you can set
the loging window component to implement "IFocusManagerContainer".

<mx:TitleWindow xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml";
    layout="absolute"
    width="355" height="217"
    implements="mx.managers.IFocusManagerContainer"
    creationComplete="{init();}">
.
.
.
import mx.managers.IFocusManagerContainer;
.
.
.
private function init():void
{
   focusManager.setFocus(login_userName);
}
.
.
.

PopUpManager.createPopUp() :

Hope that helps...
