ArryList is converted into Array type Actionscript object by Flex. Before attaching this Array as dataprovider to combobox u need to convert it to ArrayCollection. U can do so by providing it as source to Array Collection Object and then provide this arrayCollection as dataprovider to ComboBox. I know this is so generick info but I can help u more if u can post some of ur java as well as flex code...
