DragEnter event perhaps? This fires when something is dragged over it. In your handler for this you can determine if its droppable or not among other things.

What is the event that is triggered when I drop something outside of a drop target? I thought i could use dragExit() but that just shows when you leave the area. DragDrop() doesn't seem to get triggered when you actually do the drop outside of the "droppable" area. What i'm trying to do is let people click and drag items out side of a custom list and have it delete from that list's data provider.
