[flexcoders] unable to create a link report...

Hi,
I've been trying to create a link report using the mxmlc 
 -link-report=report.xml option but always get an error "unable to write link 
report to report.xml".  I've checked permissions and so on and can't see why 
this wouldn't be working, are there any common things I may have overlooked? 
I'm on OSX running the eclipse Flex Builder plugin.
