More oxygen deficiency, but good for a chuckle..
Took the F5k to FD site, grabbed a sheltered spot, raised antenna, set up, drove ground rod and connected with #6 welding cable then started power up and checkout. Laptop came up fine, saw he Firewire adapter card, loaded driver (all JUST like in shack during "rehearsal"!), F5k powered up and looked normal, BUT... NO CONNECT. Checked this and that, decided that Dynex adapter card MUST be problem as it isn't know that well to me. Went to BestBuy and got another one. Same thing - must be the F5k - bummer. Maybe the power supply - ran the sdr1k on it but never the F5k - unlikely but... Took the F5k home and it worked flawlessly - will figure out the PS problem later. Back to FD site with old PS, hooked up - worked. Other ham said "Let's hook up the ground.." sure. Instant disconnect of fire wire. Remove ground - reconnect. ... 3v AC difference between shelter ground and dirt ground, damn - it's 14:30 CDT!
