I'd also look at the WA5VJB "cheap yagi" designs. Simple and
inexpensive to build. You'd need an azimuth rotator but any old cheap TV
one would do the job. You don't really need elevation with beams for the
LEO's ( and that's all that's up there anymore anyway). Just point it
upward at about a 20 to 30 degree angle and it will be fine. There are
also articles online about homebrewing "egg beaters" and a variation
called the "Texas Potato Masher" but I believe the TPM needs an azimuth
rotator as well.
